About

Since third grade, young Samantha has had a profound affection for a boy cloaked in tattered garments, perpetually wandering the obscure corners of existence. His eyes, a deep abyss of emotion, held a wisdom burdened beyond his years.

With an intuitive empathy that transcended her years, Samantha reached out to him, driven by an unspoken understanding of his struggles.

Their initial encounter was marked by a simple yet profound gesture – a genuine smile that danced in her eyes, offering a glimmer of warmth amidst the shadows. She, too, had faced loss and isolation, and this shared vulnerability formed an unbreakable bridge between their worlds.

In a world testing their spirits, they became each other's refuge. Their friendship blossomed as years passed in the sunlit corners of the schoolyard, nurtured by shared dreams, whispered confidences, and unspoken promises.

Yet, cruel fate wrenched him away, leaving Samantha to brave the tempest of solitude. She found herself ensnared by the relentless ache of his absence. The site of his departure became her solemn pilgrimage, where his presence seemed to linger, and fragments of his voice serenaded her soul.

Does she hear his voice on the wind, or is it her cruel imagination?

Praise for this book

I don’t read paranormal literature. This was a first. I had no idea what I was reading, but it was beautiful and I had tears in my eyes as I read. That kind of love and devotion can not end. The words were beautifully sad and perfect. Sam’s love had not dimmed over the five years since Dominic’s “death.” She ached for her lost love. She wrote to him in their special meeting place and, as the sun set, would swim into the lake where his car was found and let her letter float off to him. The agony she experienced was heartrending.

I often find it difficult to fall in love with characters from a short story, but Ess Hughes paints such a picture of Sam and Dominic that it's hard not to fall. Lost & Found is the perfect blend of romance and spice, with a little horror mixed in. I highly recommend this if you're in the mood for something short and steamy.

This woman can spin a sexy tale and weave the reader right into it. She hits all the feels—sadness, longing, frustration, gradually bringing the characters to the edge, then beyond. If you’re looking to add some steam to your reading, right here it is.

Lost and Found is well-written, short, sexy and intriguing. I was genuinely sorry to see it end. It ends well, though, leading the reader to a place they might not have imagined upon beginning the story. Well done, author Ess Hughes. Five stars from me.

What a beautiful short. I could feel the aching grief. The pain and loss. The confusion and conflict. And then the searing need. The steam was there, but the motivations and emotions were what made this story beautiful!
